Nerve Conduction Velocity

NCV

The Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) study is another part of an EMG. It measures the speed and strength of signals moving between two or more points using electrodes that are taped to the skin.

An NCV sends or receives electrical signals with the help of tiny devices called electrodes. During an EMG, a needle electrode is put right into a muscle to record the electrical activity in that muscle. The results of an NCV can show problems with nerves, muscles, or the way nerves send signals to muscles.
